Baby steps…

The last couple of weeks have been spent on and off learning about WordPress and how to customize sites. I think I’ve gotten rid of pretty much all the template stuff that was originally on the site and customized the bits and pieces I decided to keep. I added a redburger icon, version 1, and modified the annoying footer. As of now, I’ve decided to set up a structure of zones for separating content. I’ve only really worked on getting the blog set up (which is what I’m using to write this) and a few pages for vehicle galleries. Also a page for computer info because I always forget the details when I need them. These pages were really just an excuse to get me started and give me some experience with the WordPress tools. So far so good. All the content has been put in zone 1. I’m hoping to get zone 2 set up and I’m planning to require membership for access to content in zone 2. We’ll see what happens…

Hosted website…

I decided to bite the bullet and get someone to host the website. Went with Godaddy.com as they’re also handling my domain name registration. Now on to learning WordPress. I’ve stuck a basic theme as a starting point and plan on modifying or adding to it as time permits. I hope to at least get rid of the template stuff that’s here and put some more useful sections or links on there. At least I got the header page changed. Small victories.

The redburger.org journey starts…

Last week I finally decided to get around to registering a domain name. I’ve been meaning to do it for a while, but didn’t really have a purpose for it nor the time to devote to it. I’ve played around with building small websites from scratch and done some basic HTML/CSS/Javascript stuff.

I decided to go with Godadddy.com and registered ‘redburger.org’ for 2 years. I guess that makes me responsible for the content until at least 2020! So now the pressure’s on to do something with it. I haven’t signed up for website hosting, but probably will. They’ve got a 3yr plan for 3.99/mo. Figured it would at least get me started and give me some time to come up with other plans for hopefully self-hosting it…

Alright, so fresh with my newly registered domain and a little web research, it looked like using WordPress would be a decent way to get started fairly quickly and get a site up and running while playing around with it.
